Saved by a Stranger
Do I really need to live my life for God?
It’s a gorgeous day outside. You decide to take a walk and bask in the sunlight while admiring the beauty around you. You notice the green grass, that not one flower is colored the same, the smell of fresh air, the sounds of birds singing. Due to the fact that you are in awe of the day you start to cross the street without looking. WAM! Suddenly a stranger steps in the way of an oncoming car, pushing you out-of-the-way, and lays his life down for yours. He was willing to die to save you. What an amazing gift he just gave you. Would you not feel as though you owe your life to this person that so selflessly gave their own life for you to live? I don’t know about you, but I would do anything to make sure that person would be remembered as a hero. Blast it on the news. Tell his friends and family. Post everywhere I could. I would be sure to tell the world and every person I came in contact with what this person did for me.
What if I told you this is a true story for every one of us? Jesus Christ laid his life down and selflessly gave his life for us to live. He wasn’t just killed. He was mocked, beaten, tortured beyond recognition of being a man. He did this on our behalf. Yet we don’t believe it, or we keep it quiet, and we chose to do nothing for him, but live life selfishly as if he did nothing. . What if, since Jesus gave his life for you and me to live, Shouldn’t we in return give him our life (every single part of it)?
Now ask yourself what you would do if someone told you that they are going to kill your child in exchange for a murderer, adulterer, or criminal to live? How would you react. I know for me, I would be hunting that person down and making them suffer all the days of their life. I would be resentful, and angry, and bitter. Yet, Our God is none of those things. Our God is so good and amazing that he did just that. Gave his one and only son for a bunch of sinners. He watched him suffer and die so that us (liars, cheaters, and yes even murders) can live.
For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. — John 3:16 NIV
But God does not bitter or angry or make us suffer. If we give him our life it’s not a bad thing. It’s not a life sentence of misery and condemnation. We don’t suffer for it. We have a better life, with purpose and hope.
For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. — Jeremiah 29:11 NIV
That is amazing to me. God gave his son, who was perfect and sinless, to be beaten and murdered for people who do nothing but sin. And in return he asks that we give up our crappy lives to have better ones with him. Sounds amazing! This is the perfect definition of LOVE. Yet we still don’t give up our lives. We still hold on to our crappy lives. We even doubt that he is real.
If you doubt the existence of God. If you have read this and still think “I don’t believe it”.
If you give your life up to serve God, he will make himself real to you.
The best way to get proof that there is a God is to surrender your life to him. He will show up in a ways you can’t imagine.
